INCURSIONS
Nature Walk (Kindy - Year 3)
Students are led on an exploratory walk discovering native plants and animals that live in their local environment. Using Nature spotting cards and tools, such as magnifying glasses and fungi mirrors, they will discover the natural world all around them and develop an appreciation of how important caring for your local environment is. The incursion includes a craft activity.
Fungi Fun (Years 4-7)
Available in Autumn and Winter months
A fungal foray (search for fungus) is a great way for children to connect to the natural world. Fungi play essential roles in all ecosystems, many are recyclers, while others form partnerships with plants. You don’t need to look hard in the wet season (late May-August) to find Fungi - there are many to be found within school grounds or on a walk to a local parkland.
The Bush Classroom offers 1.5-2hr Incursions, including a talk, foray and ecosystem game. Linked to curriculum, plus receive a resource pack.
Bush Adaptations (Years 4-9)
Available if your school has native vegetation within the school grounds or walking distance from your school
Students are led on an exploratory walk discovering native plants and animals and investigating how they have adapted to their particular habitat. Students learn about specific characteristics these species have developed to allow them to survive in their environment and climate. They will consider the impacts of threats to these species and reflect on actions that can be taken to conserve these special environments. 1.5-2hrs dependant on distance walked from school grounds. Linked to curriculum, plus receive a teacher's pack (PDF).
